What is the REAL risk of not starting your business?

"Growth is painful, change is painful. But nothing is more painful than staying stuck where you don't belong", N. R. Narayana Murthy.

When I begin working with a new client who wants help with starting their new business they often throw at me all the reasons why they shouldn’t do it.

And I get it.

Starting a new business can feel scary and overwhelming and full of potential pitfalls in the process.  Much of what they tell me is around their finances and the massive change that they might experience if they leave their current job to pursue their (possibly) less lucrative dreams.

Yes - starting a new business will absolutely mean change.  Change in finances, change in status, change in working hours…these are just some of the changes that you will experience.  And there is no doubt that they will have an impact on your life.

However, the question you should really be asking yourself is what is the risk of NOT starting the business?

What is the risk of you staying in your current job which makes you unhappy and unfulfilled?

What is the risk of not doing that one thing that you wish you could accomplish?

What is the risk of not experiencing those changes?

What is the risk of not scratching that itch?

What is the risk of not pursuing your dreams?

The REAL risk is missing out on the opportunity and all the personal and professional joy and growth it could bring.

Don’t let the fear of change cause you to regret.  Do you really want to look back at your working life and say, “I just wish I’d given it a go?”
