"Whether you think you can or whether you think you can't, you're right" Henry Ford.
When we believe in ourselves and our abilities we become unstoppable. We approach obstacles and setbacks as temporary challenges that we need to overcome rather than some reflection of our own inabilities.
We are more likely to take risks, albeit calculated ones, push the boundaries and stretch ourselves further than we normally would.
We set more ambitious goals. We take chances. We step out of our comfort zone. We look to learn and grow.
Belief in ourselves breeds confidence, resilience and grit.
So how can we nurture self belief?
*Question your inner voice.
Pay attention to how you talk to yourself. Our negative self-talk rarely comes from a place of truth. What evidence do you have? Challenge your internal critic by actively countering negative thoughts with positive statements about your skills, strengths and worth.
*Celebrate the small wins.
Don't just focus on major accomplishments. Recognise and celebrate the small victories and successes each day. This will retrain your brain and reinforces your abilities.
*Take the first step.
The biggest leaps often start with a single small step. Don't let self-doubt keep you stuck where you are. Take one action, however small, but take it. Sign up for that workshop, brainstorm your idea, do some research. These small steps will be the beginning of that journey.
Taking the entrepreneurial leap requires confidence, resilience and self-trust. We have to believe in ourselves enough to buck conventional paths and societal expectations. We have to back ourselves to take calculated risks, shift strategies when things don't go as planned, and persist through the inevitable setbacks and bumps along the way.
Self-belief allows us to go all-in on ourselves and our visions. It's the rocket fuel that propels us forward and gives us the patience, focus and determination to turn our wildest dreams into reality.
